After a Death

What should I do when a death occurs?

First, contact the police (this is required by law in Jamaica). Then contact Morgan's Funeral Home — we will guide you through the next steps. You should also notify the doctor who was treating the deceased.

Where do I register the death?

Deaths are registered at the Registrar General's Department. You will need the medical certificate from the doctor or hospital.

Where do I obtain the death certificate?

The death certificate is issued by the Registrar General's Department at the same time you receive the burial order.

Can I register a death in Jamaica if my loved one died overseas?

Yes, if the deceased was a Jamaican national, the death can be registered in Jamaica. We can assist with this process.

Can I build a vault on family land?

Yes, you can build a burial vault on family land. You will need to contact your parish council for the necessary permissions.

What cemeteries do you work with?

What is the difference between burial and cremation?

Burial involves interment in a cemetery, while cremation involves the transformation of remains to ashes. Both options can include funeral services.
